Albert Servaes

The work of Albert Servaes (Ghent 1883 – Lucerne 1966) is extensively represented in the basic collection of the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens. In 2009, MDD had the unique opportunity to enhance this ensemble of paintings and drawings by Servaes by acquiring an impressive and varied series of twelve vertical panel paintings, created in 1934.

The exhibition Albert Servaes is organized on the occasion of this recent acquisition and fits into the continuation of the series of collection deep-dives that the museum has been organizing in recent years around artists from its collection.

The exhibition aims to bring the work of this often-overlooked artist back into the spotlight and to explore the significance of Albert Servaes as a key figure in the development of Flemish Modernism in the period 1910-1930.
