Museum garden

By 2028, MDD aims to become an open and welcoming meeting place where art, nature, and community come together. The museum garden will be redesigned as a green, inviting space featuring seating areas, walking paths, and shaded zones that encourage relaxation, social interaction, and collaboration. Local residents, schools, and volunteers will be actively involved through a participatory project.

The garden is envisioned as a natural extension of the Leie landscape, with open sightlines, native plantings, and a focus on biodiversity and climate resilience. Wadis and wet zones will collect rainwater, while regionally native species will attract pollinators. In this way, the design reflects the history, ecology, and identity of the Leie region.

The garden will also be car-free and fully accessible, with a wheelchair ramp and gently sloping paths leading to a new entrance platform. Natural play elements, art installations, seating areas, a play forest, and a picnic zone will make the space enjoyable for visitors of all ages. Through workshops focused on art and nature, the garden will become an integral part of the educational program, growing into an inclusive and inspiring space for connection and discovery.

Support the growth of a unique public space where art, nature, and people come together and inspire one another.
