2nd Biennial of Painting
Like two years ago, the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens and the Roger Raveel Museum are jointly organizing a summer biennial of painting. With this project, the intention is not to showcase the very latest and trendiest painting talent, but to conduct a subjective exploration of some traces that painting has followed in the last hundred years. Every two years, a particular starting point is chosen to approach painting in an original way.
Beyond the sublime
In this second edition, we take a stroll through the painting of the last decades that is experienced as sublime. The exhibition will be a very intense and introspective experience, recontextualizing the sacred and sublime meaning of art.
At MDD, there will be a surprising dialogue between the works of about ten artists spanning different generations. Two painters from the museum’s collection, Gustave Van de Woestyne and Hippolyte Daeye served as the starting point for the selection. Additionally, a spectacular sculpture project by the Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone will be exhibited in the museum’s garden.
