Neal Tait
Dark Mutter
For his exhibition at MDD, Neal Tait presents a selection of works dating from the last four years. This new presentation of both older and very recent works gives rise to new storylines and renewed trains of thought. The title of the exhibition is Dark Mutter, consisting of a reexamination of past questions and existing concerns. With the title of his exhibition, Neal Tait refers to Dark Matter. These are particles that are not visible with optical means and also not detectable through the electromagnetic radiation that reaches us on Earth. Therefore, it is called dark matter in contrast to visible matter. Mutter is both English for muttering to oneself and German for the word ‘mother.’ In this way, the title refers to the origin of everything, to something very familiar to us, and at the same time, something that remains obscure, and invisible. The exhibition becomes a reflection on the idea of the lost origin, in the sense that we have managed to build a world in which we are continually uncertain about our place.
