Juliaan Lampens 1926—2026
On the occasion of his 100th birthday, MDD, the Juliaan Lampens Foundation and the Flemish Architecture Institute are highlighting the renowned architect Juliaan Lampens. On 5 November 2026, a symposium will be held at MDD, followed by an exhibition running from 29 November 2026 to 14 March 2027. During this period, visits to the Van Wassenhove House will also be organized.
Symposium
The symposium brings together an internationally renowned group of architects, historians, critics, engineers and educators to highlight the enduring relevance of Lampens’ work and legacy. Through lectures and discussions, both his iconic residential projects and public commissions will be addressed, with particular attention to the radical and distinctive character of his architecture.

The symposium takes place on 5 November from 9:00 to 18:30. A preview of the exhibition and lunch are included in the ticket. A shuttle service will also be provided from Ghent-Sint-Pieters station.
Exhibition
The exhibition brings together a carefully curated selection of Lampens’ work, including both iconic projects and never-before-seen drawings and archival materials from the Juliaan Lampens Archive. Hand-drawn sketches, plans, models and design documents offer a unique insight into his distinctive working method and spatial thinking.
The exhibition runs from 29 November to 14 March 2027, daily from 10:00 to 17:00. Tickets for the exhibition can be purchased at the museum. On 5 November, during the symposium, the exhibition is only accessible to visitors with a symposium ticket.
Visit to the Van Wassenhove House
From 5 November to 14 March 2027, you will have the unique opportunity to visit the iconic Van Wassenhove House.
The house, designed by architect Juliaan Lampens and built between 1972 and 1974 in Sint-Martens-Latem, is considered a masterpiece of Belgian modernist architecture. Concrete, wood and glass come together in a single open living space where all functions flow seamlessly into one another. With its striking geometric forms and distinctive use of light, the house offers a unique perspective on living and space.
