The legacy of the Gevaert family
As part of the exhibition Het Erf, MDD – in collaboration with Cultuurregio Leie Schelde – presents the lecture De erfenis van de familie Gevaert – macrobiotiek en wereldburgerschap in Sint-Martens-Latem.
The unique life philosophy of artist Edgar Gevaert (1891–1965) and his family left an indelible mark on sustainable food revolutions in the region and beyond. His innovative ideas about global citizenship, pacifism, and macrobiotics not only led to the founding of LIMA in 1957 as a producer of organic and natural food but also to the creation of the political party Universele Volk and the experimental free state Werelddorp.
In this lecture by Jolien Verroeye (Cultuurregio Leie Schelde), the life and legacy of Edgar Gevaert are highlighted, providing insight into the achievements of the Gevaert family and their lasting impact on the world today.
