Notes on Shape Shifting

Notes on Shape Shifting is the first institutional solo exhibition by Senegalese-born artist Libasse Ka. Advised by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, the exhibition highlights new works that place Ka’s rhythmic, process-driven approach to painting center stage.

Born in 1998 in Camberene, Senegal, and currently based in Brussels, Ka moves seamlessly between figuration and abstraction. His layered, stamped, and smeared compositions investigate materiality, movement, and the tension between precision and chance, challenging conventional notions of control and spontaneity in art.

During the preview on Sunday, September 21, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker will present a clapping performance to inaugurate Notes on Shape Shifting.

With this exhibition, MDD offers a unique insight into Ka’s evolving practice, where compositions are continuously built u
