Artists and Friends: Shervin/e Sheikh Rezaei, Maxime Prananto & Bart Cassiman

On the occasion of the 9th Biennial of Painting, MDD is proud to present a conversation between Shervin/e Sheikh Rezaei, Maxime Prananto and art critic and curator Bart Cassiman. This artist talk is part of our new ‘Artists and Friends’ series, in which an artist will engage in conversation with a friend from another field or discipline. Together, they will delve deeper into background, culture, collaboration, friendship and how these elements play a role in artistic practice. This talk is a perfect opportunity to learn more about the artists' work and their views on art.

A key theme in this session is ‘ground’, a theme central to the current exhibition ‘Stories from the Ground’. Shervin/e's work focuses on the complex relationship between humans and nature, often exploring themes such as identity, migration and the physical and spiritual ties to the earth. Her artworks are a fusion of traditional techniques and contemporary forms of expression, using materials that are both culturally and ecologically charged.

The talk will discuss her collaboration with designer Maxime Prananto. The result of this unique collaboration can be admired in the museum's garden. Blurring the boundaries between art and design, this installation invites visitors to think about their environment and the stories carried by the ground we stand on in a new way.

The conversation will be moderated by art historian and art writer Tamara Beheydt. She is part of the core editorial board of GLEAN, and also publishes frequent contributions in other written media, such as COLLECT and De Tijd. She also writes exhibition texts and portfolio texts for artists and regularly appears as a public speaker at panel discussions, lectures or artist talks.
