Paul De Vylder
Container: De Puntzak van Heine

Paul de Vylder (1942–2022) was an author of art reviews and art-historical texts and thinker in addition to being a visual artist and teacher. In 1989, he participated in several episodes of Jef Cornelis' (then controversial) BRT culture programme Container. In one of these live broadcasts, De Puntzak van Heine, historical letters on politics and revolt were read and discussed by regular participants Lieven De Cauter and Bart Verschaffel, and guests Rudi Laermans and Paul De Vylder. The letters were simultaneously confronted with visual sequences, mainly compiled by De Vylder that, diametrically opposed to the conversation, caused surprising and disruptive confrontations of word and image.

As part of the exhibition Mijn, mijn werk, on 24 September 2022, the original broadcast De Puntzak van Heine will be shown again followed by a discussion.
